Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra women's soccer is set to begin its unique spring season with a pair of home contests against local opponents. The Pride will open up its campaign with the Long Island Rivalry against Stony Brook on February 21 (11 a.m.) before welcoming the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on February 25 (7 p.m.)
Pride Productions live video will be available for both games free of charge. In addition, WRHU will provide audio only broadcasts for both contets. Live statistics will also be available. Hofstra, led by 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year,
Simon Riddiough, is looking forward to returning to the pitch after a spectacular 2019 season that culminated with its third-straight Colonial Athletic Association Championship and NCAA Second Round appearance. The Pride return a slew of key players, including the CAA Attacking Player of the Year,
Sabrina Bryan, the CAA Midfielder of the Year,
Lucy Porter, the CAA Co-Defender and Rookie of the Year,
Anja Suttner, as well as other All-Conference honorees including
Miri Taylor,
Lucy Shepherd,
Jordan Littleboy, and
Skylar Kuzmich. Recently, Porter (16 G, 8 A) and Bryan (11 G, 10 A) were named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List after earning United Soccer Coaches All-America honors last season.
Stony Brook, led by former Hofstra coach Tobias Bischof, posted a record of 14-6-1 last year while capturing the America East title. Stony Brook is led by Alyssa Francese who was also featured on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List after tallying 12 goals and one assist for the Seawolves last season.
Fairleigh Dickinson will open its season up on Monday, Feb. 22 at Seton Hall before heading to Hofstra for its second-straight road contest. The Knights went 9-6-6 last season and were led by returning forward Alexiane Marquis who recorded six goals and four assists.
Hofstra faced both Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson in 2019, ironically also in back-to-back contests. The Pride defeated the Seawolves on the road on Sept. 8, 2-1 in double overtime while edging out the Knights at home four days later, 2-1.
Hofstra is 12-3-0 all-time against Stony Brook and 7-0-1 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson.
