Albany, NY - Jeorgio Kocevski scored for Syracuse with 4:29 remaining in the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Orange a 2-1 victory over Hofstra Friday afternoon at Afrim's Sports Park. The Pride had tied the score 12:30 earlier after falling behind in the first half.
Hofstra fell to 0-1 on the season with the loss. Syracuse moved to 1-3-2 overall after playing five games this past fall.
Syracuse was on the board first as Abdi Salim scored off an assist from Noah Singelmann at 33:10. That goal would hold up until freshman
Ryan Carmichael found the back of the net for the equalizer at 73:01, converting a pass from senior
Storm Strongin, Hofstra's top assist man last season.
As time ticked down, Kocevski took a pass from Singelmann and put a shot past Hofstra freshman keeper
Wessel Speel for the game-winner. Speel had one save in his collegiate debut. Syracuse keeper Russell Shealy made six saves in goal for his first win of the year.
Hofstra will return to action next Friday, February 19, at 3 p.m. when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in the home opener at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The game is closed to the public and spectators are not allowed.
