Hempstead, NY - Four different players scored goals for Hofstra as the Pride cruised to a 4-1 victory over Stony Brook in the Long island Rivalry Game at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday evening. Hofstra moved to 1-1 on the season with the victory.
Joe Wright got things started at 12:02 of the first half as he scored his first career goal off a pass from
Storm Strongin.
Jack Nuttall joined the first career goal party as well, when he buried a free kick into the lower left corner at 40:33.
The Pride wasted little time getting going in the second half as
George O'Malley sent a long cross-field pass into the box that was volleyed across by
Hendrik Hebbeker to a streaking
Luca Tausch, who played the ball out of the air and past Stony Brook keeper Curtis Copenhaver at 49:25.
Matthew Vowinkel ended the scoring with 1:33 to play as he headed in a free kick from
Stefan Mason.
Stony Brook (0-2)Â got its lone goal from Aki Solvason, who took a pass from Trevor Harrison and sent a shot through a screen that found the lower left corner.
Hofstra freshman goalkeeper
Wessel Speel earned his first career victory after stopping two of Stony Brook's three shots on goal.
Edmond Kaiser made one save and allowed the first two Hofstra goals. Copenhaver played the second half without recording a save.
Hofstra will be back in action Wednesday night, March 3, at Massachusetts. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Amherst.

-Vowinkel's goal was the 24th of his career and he is one goal away from moving into a tie for eighth place on the Hofstra career goals list.
