FH: Hofstra Drops Season-Opener to Temple

Philadelphia, PA - The Hofstra field hockey team started off the new season with a tough loss on the road, as Temple edged the Pride, 1-0, from Howarth Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Friday afternoon.

The goal for Temple (1-0) came on a penalty corner 11:40 into the first quarter off a penalty corner attempt. Dani Batze fired a shot from the top of the striking circle on target, and Veronika Novakova got a stick to the ball to redirect the shot over the shoulder of sophomore Merlijn van der Vegt and into the back of the net for the only goal of the afternoon.

The Hofstra (0-1) offense was stymied by Temple throughout the afternoon, with junior Djuna Slort taking the lone shot for Hofstra on the day.
