WBB: Hofstra Drops Pre-Thanksgiving Matchup to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Hofstra women's basketball team battled but ultimately dropped a 65-32 decision to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday afternoon.

Hofstra dropped to 2-2 overall while Georgia Tech, who is receiving votes in the Associated Press Top-25 poll and was ranked inside the top-20 last week, improves to 4-1.

Jaylen Hines was Hofstra's top-scorer as she tallied nine points on 4-of-6 shooting, including seven points in the third quarter. Leading on the boards for Hofstra was Jaala Henry who pulled down five, while Rosi Nicholson tallied a career-high five steals.

The Yellow Jackets defense was too much for the Pride early on, as the home team forced nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes of action and limited Hofstra to just four points in the opening frame. After Caria Reynolds made the first basket of the second period, Georgia Tech went on a 10-2 run before Brown scored four of the final six points of the half, bringing the score at the midway point to 32-12. Defensively, Hofstra held Georgia Tech off the scoreboard for the final 2:34 of the frame while forcing two Yellow Jacket turnovers.

After back-to-back three-pointers by Georgia Tech to start the second half, Hofstra heated up as Hines scored seven-straight Pride points. Following a Georgia Tech layup at the 5:06 mark, The Pride used a 7-0 run with baskets by Nicholson, Reynolds, and Jada Peacock, cutting the Yellow Jacket lead to 46-26. Georgia Tech answered with a pair of three-pointers, bringing the third quarter score to 52-26.

During the final frame, Hofstra got four points from Sorelle Ineza who shot 2-of-3 during the period and two points by Vanerlie Valcourt, but the deficit was too much to overcome for the Pride.

Three Georgia Tech players finished in double figures including Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (15), Nerea Hermosa (10), and Lorela Cubaj (10).

Hofstra returns to action in the Peach State for a meeting with Kennesaw State on Friday, November 26. Tip-off at the KSU Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m.

NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 0-4 all-time against Georgia Tech.
-Turnovers were costly for the Pride as Georgia Tech forced 21 Hofstra miscues
-Hofstra recorded at least 10 steals in the third of four games this season
