Mount Pleasant, SC - Hofstra saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as the Pride played to a 1-1 draw at the College of Charleston at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point. The Cougars scored in the final minute to send the game to overtime and neither team was able to score in the extra sessions.
Hofstra moves to 10-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Charleston is 3-5-3 overall and 0-4-1 in the CAA. The Pride is unbeaten in their last eight games (7-0-1).
The teams played a scoreless first half though Hofstra dominated on the stat sheet. The Pride took 10 shots, had two shots on goal and recorded 10 corner kicks while the Cougars managed just three shots with none on goal and no corner kicks. Cameron Smith was up to the task in the Cougars goal as he saved the two Hofstra shots on goal.
Ryan Carmichael scored his team-best 10th goal of the season in the 51st minute to give the Pride the 1-0 lead as he converted a pass from
Matthew Vowinkel and sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net. The score remained that way until the final minute when Charleston tied the game with a goal off the right foot of Liam Hudock with 40 seconds to play.
Hofstra finished with a season-high 20 shots in the game with nine on goal. Hofstra keeper
Wessel Speel mad three saves, while Smith had eight for the Cougars.
Hofstra returns to action next Saturday, October 16 at home against NJIT. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
