Ryan Carmichael scored two first half goals and the Hofstra defense allowed just one shot on goal as the Pride extended their unbeaten streak to nine games with a 4-0 victory over NJIT Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Hofstra is 8-0-1 in its last nine contests.
The Pride improved to 11-1-1 on the season with the victory while the Highlanders slipped to 3-9-1 with the loss.
Hofstra got a boost just 2:06 into the game when NJIT keeper Samuel Reisgys was sent off with a red card following a hard challenge outside the box. The Pride took advantage of the extra man with Carmichael heading in his first goal off a pass from
Hendrik Hebbeker at the 6:50 mark. Nearly 12 minutes later, Carmichael got another header goal off a pass into the box from
Storm Strongin.
Stefan Mason was also credited with an assist on the goal.
The Pride extended the lead just before the half as Hebbeker sent a pass to
Roc Carles, who was making a run into the box and the sophomore midfielder gathered the ball and sent a shot past keeper Caden Pellito at the 40:47 mark. Hofstra added a goal in the second half off a corner kick set piece as
Pierce Infuso netted his first career goal as he headed in
Storm Strongin's corner kick.
Hofstra outshot NJIT, 16-2, and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Pellito posted four saves for the Highlanders.
Hofstra will be back in action Tuesday night when it hosts Lafayette in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
Notes:
-Carmichael now has 12 goals on the season, which is tied for ninth on the single season goals scored list.
-Carmichael also has scored 10 goals over the last six games.
-Hebbeker's two assists give him nine for the season, which is tied for fifth on the single season list
-Strongin has eight assists this season, which is tied for ninth on the single season list, and 23 career assists which is fifth all-time at Hofstra.

Wessel Speel made one save for his fifth shutout of the season. Â
