VB: Hofstra Falls To Delaware In Road Tilt

Newark, DE - Freshman Florencia Wolkowyski led the Hofstra volleyball team with 10 kills, but Delaware rallied in the first set and would go on to defeat the Pride in three sets on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center. 

Hofstra falls to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss, while Delaware improved to 6-9 and 1-5. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20, and 25-23. 

The Pride led 22-17 late in the first set before a huge Delaware rally saw the Blue Hens outscore Hofstra, 8-1, to close the set and earn the win. 

Hofstra had its strongest offensive showing in the second stanza, hitting at a robust .364, but Delaware managed to push the lead to 2-0 in the contest with their own strong showing on the offensive end. 

It was another close set in the third stanza with the set tied at 17 before Delaware scored two straight points and would eventually earn a narrow two-point win to capture the victory in the match. 

Graduate student Ana Martinovic added eight kills and 10 digs for Hofstra, while sophomore Damla Tokman posted six kills on 10 attempts and four blocks. Freshman Beatriz Alves had 30 assists, while freshman Chiara Cucco tallied 13 digs. 

Lauryn Richardson led Delaware with 13 kills, while Katie Turner had 13 digs. 

Hofstra returns home next weekend when it faces William & Mary on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will air on FloVolleyball. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is 54-23 all-time against Delaware. 
- Cucco has led Hofstra in digs in all 17 matches this season and reached double figures in all 17 as well.
- Wolkowyski led Hofstra in kills for the fifth time this season.
