VB: Hofstra Earns Road Victory Over Delaware

Newark, DE - Graduate student Ana Martinovic had 10 kills and 12 digs and junior Athina Dimitriadis added 10 kills and a career-high six blocks to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a four-set win over Delaware on Saturday afternoon at the Carpenter Sports Building. 

The win was Hofstra's second straight road victory and improves the Pride's record to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware falls to 5-9 and 0-5. 

Set scores were 27-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-20 in favor of the visiting Pride. 

Hofstra rallied late in the first set to take the lead as Delaware held a 22-20 lead before the Pride used a 4-1 run to take a 24-23 lead following a kill from freshman Florencia Wolkowyski. Hofstra was finally able to put the Blue Hens away in the set with a kill from Martinovic followed by a block from junior Zyare Abdul-Rahim and sophomore Damla Tokman

In the second stanza, Hofstra broke a 19-19 tie with three straight points and never trailed again as a block from Martinovic and Tokman ended the set. 

Delaware got one set back with a five-point win in the third stanza, sending the match to a fourth set. Hofstra broke away midway through the set as a kill from Tokman made it 13-12 and the Pride never looked back in the set in earning the big road victory. 

Freshman Beatriz Alves had another strong match as she tallied 39 assists, seven kills, and six digs, while freshman Chiara Cucco picked up a team-best 13 digs for the Pride. 

Lani Mason led Delaware with 15 kills and added 10 digs. 

Hofstra and Delaware close the weekend with another match on Sunday at 1 p.m. That contest will air on FloVolleyball. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 54-22 all-time against Delaware. 
- The double-double was Martinovic's team-leading seventh of the season. 
- Dimitriadis previously had five blocks at Charleston on November 11, 2019.
