WSOC: #25 Hofstra Hits the Road for Two Colonial Athletic Association Matches

Hempstead, N.Y. – Following a tough weekend where the Hofstra women's soccer team suffered its first Colonial Athletic Association defeat, the Pride looks to rebound at Drexel on Thursday, October 21 (5 p.m.) before traveling south to Elon on Sunday, October 24 (1 p.m.).

Hofstra (12-2-1, 4-1-1 CAA) is coming off a frustrating weekend where it out-shot opponents, 45-13, but for the first time this season, was held scoreless in back-to-back matches. The Pride opened up with a 1-0 setback to Northeastern where is had several chances to find the back of the net, but eventually suffered the 1-0 decision after dominating in shots, 25-9. On Sunday, the Pride and William & Mary Tribe settled for a 0-0 double overtime draw, and this time, both teams came up scoreless after Hofstra out-shot the visitors, 21-4.
 
Despite the results this past weekend, senior forward Miri Taylor continues to be the nation's leader with 35 points on the season, while her 14 goals rank second. In addition, following Hofstra's clean sheet against William & Mary, goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich now has eight total shutouts this season, the second-highest amount in the country.
 
The Pride will open up a new week of Colonial Athletic Association competition at Drexel (5-5-3, 1-2-2 CAA), who is also entering the match coming off a 0-1-1 weekend. The Dragons fell to UNCW in overtime, 3-2 before drawing against Delaware, 1-1. Delaney Lappin is the player to watch on the offensive end for Drexel as she leads the team with 10 points, four goals, and two assists. Miyuki Schoyen has seen a bulk of the time in goal and owns a 1.14 goals against average and 0.783 save percentage.
 
Hofstra is 20-4-1 all-time against Drexel. The teams last met on April 1, 2020 when the teams tied, 1-1. The Pride out-shot the Dragons during that match, 30-5, and Drexel's lone goal was scored on a penalty kick.
 
Following the Drexel match, Hofstra is looking for major redemption on Sunday against the defending CAA Champions, Elon (7-5-1, 2-2-1 CAA) in a rematch of the 2020 CAA semifinal. On Thursday evening prior to Hofstra's match, the Phoenix will face William & Mary, but this past weekend, Elon was 1-1 against Towson (L, 0-1) and Northeastern (W, 2-1 OT). Carson Jones leads the Phoenix with nine points on four goals and one assist, while Abby Fusca has three assists to lead the team. Goalkeeper McKenna Dalfonso has a 1.07 goals against average and .745 save percentage.
 
Hofstra leads the all-time series vs. Elon, 7-1-0. In the CAA semifinal last season, Hofstra fell to the Phoenix, 1-0 despite dominating in chances, 16-6.
