Charleston, SC - Graduate student
Ana Martinovic posted a match-high 13 kills and added seven digs, but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Charleston on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena.
Hofstra fell to 11-9 and 5-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss, while Charleston improved to 12-8 and 5-4 in league action. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, and 25-15.
The first two sets were close with the Cougars winning both by identical scores. Hofstra had its best offensive showing in the opening stanza, hitting at a .419 clip but were unable to overcome Charleston's offense as the Cougars managed a .382 attack percentage.
The Pride would be unable to overcome the early deficit in the match as after another close set in the second stanza, the Cougars put the finishing touches on the win with a victory in the final set.
Freshman
Beatriz Alves added 28 assists and eight digs for Hofstra, which also got seven kills and two blocks from junior
Athina Dimitriadis.
Lexi Wierzbicki had 13 kills for Charleston.
Hofstra and Charleston will close the weekend series on Sunday with a 12 p.m. match. The contest will air on FloVolleyball.
