Matthew Vowinkel was selected in the third round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by FC Cincinnati. Vowinkel was the second pick of the third round, 56th overall.
A United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region selection in 2019 as well as a First Team All-CAA selection, Vowinkel is the fifth Hofstra men's soccer student-athlete to be chosen in the MLS Draft, joining Gary Flood (2007), Michael Todd (2007), Joseph Holland (2017), and Sean Nealis (2019).
The New Hyde Park, New York, native led the Pride with 13 goals and 28 points during the 2019 season. The 13 goals and 28 points were both career highs, and the 13 goals were the most for a Pride player since 2005.
Vowinkel ranked second in the CAA in goals scored and points.
Vowinkel was also a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American and a Scholar All-East Region pick in 2019.
During his three years with the Pride, Vowinkel has started played in 57 games and has recorded 23 goals and two assists for 48 points.
