Darcie Smith became the program's all-time leader in draw controls and fellow senior
Alexa Mattera reached 100 career goals for Hofstra, but it wasn't enough as Maryland defeated the Pride women's lacrosse team, 16-11, on Saturday afternoon.
Darcie Smith now has 203 career draw controls to break the previous program record of 200 set by Brittain Altomare (2012-15). Mattera now has 103 goals to move into 10th place all-time at Hofstra, passing Kelly Dodson (102 from 1998-2001).
The loss ends a four-game win streak for Hofstra, which fell to 4-2 with the loss. Maryland improved to 3-3 with the victory.
Mattera scored twice in the first four minutes of the game to give Hofstra an early 2-1 advantage at the 26:39 mark of the contest. Maryland gained the momentum, though, and scored eight straight goals to lead 9-2 with 6:54 left in the half. The Pride would end the run and get a goal from junior

Hofstra opened the second half with a goal from freshman
Taylor Mennella and they would get another from Mennella followed by a goal from Whelan to culminate a 4-1 run for the Pride that closed the gap to 10-6 with 23:29 left in regulation. Hofstra kept battling throughout and had another stretch where they used a 3-1 scoring run to make it 15-10 late in the second half. Alyssa Parrella scored her second of the contest.
Mattera finished with four goals, while Whelan tallied a hat trick as well with three goals. Senior

Shannon Boyle each posted two caused turnovers. Sophomore
Jess Smith established a new career-high with 15 saves. Brindi Griffin had five goals for Maryland and Maddie McSally had 16 saves.
Hofstra returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Boston College for a 4 p.m. contest that will air on the ACC Network.
NOTES
- It was Mattera's third hat trick of the season and 16th of her career. For Whelan it was her second hat trick this season and the ninth of her career.
- Parrella had two points and is now tied for second all-time in Colonial Athletic Association history with 288 points. She is tied with Stacey Morland of Loyola (1999-2002). Only Suzanne Wosczyna of Old Dominion (325 from 2001-04) has more.
- Hofstra is 0-9 all-time against Maryland.
