Newton, MA - Senior
Alyssa Parrella had three goals and one assist and junior
Katie Whelan added two goals and one assist, but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-10 decision to #20 Boston College on Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Lacrosse Complex.
Both teams saw their records move to 4-3 with the result.
Hofstra fell behind early, falling into a 7-0 hole before Parrella got the Pride on the board at the 20:18 mark with an unassisted tally. She would score her second of the game to close the gap to 8-2 about halfway through the opening half. With the Eagles pushing the league to nine later in the half, the Pride got goals from Parrella and sophomore
Amanda Guerra to go into the break down 13-5.
The Pride scored the first two goals of the second stanza, and in total had a 3-0 scoring run spanning the halves, to close to within 13-7 after senior
Alexa Mattera and Whelan found the back of the net. Hofstra would dominate the opening portion of the second half as they scored five of the first seven goals of the half and got the score to 15-10 after a goal from sophomore
Erin Demek with 15:57 remaining in regulation. That would be the closest Hofstra would get, though, as Boston College scored the game's final five goals.
Parrella added a team-high five draw controls, while senior
Darcie Smith added four. Sophomores
Erin Tierney and
Jess Smith each posted two ground balls in the game, with J. Smith making ten saves in net.
Charlotte North led BC with eight points on three goals and five assists. Jenn Medjid added six points on five goals and one assist.
Hofstra is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Quinnipiac for a 12 p.m. contest.
