Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University women's basketball team honored its four graduating seniors prior to Saturday's final CAA game of the regular season, a 62-54 defeat to visiting Northeastern from inside the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on Saturday.

The loss puts Hofstra at 3-26 overall and 0-18 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Northeastern improves to 13-16 overall and 9-9 against conference opponents.

The teams got off to a slow start as neither team scored for the first two minutes until the Huskies scored the first five points of the day. A Hernandez Gil trey and a layup from Hines quickly tied the score, but Northeastern pulled ahead with 13 of the next 15 points to take an 18-7 lead before Hines scored on a layup and Karsten nailed a three to cut the lead to five. A Northeastern three-pointer and a layup from Kalin brought the score to 21-14 in favor of the Huskies at the end of the opening period.

Sophomore
Caria Reynolds scored the first points of the second quarter on a jumper, but Northeastern scored the next seven points to make it a 27-16 game with 8:33 remaining in the quarter. Brown scored the next five points for the Pride to reduce the deficit to six points, 27-21, but Hofstra could not get any closer and Northeastern would close the half on a 12-6 run to take a 39-27 lead into intermission.

The Pride went on an 11-2 run to begin the third quarter, bringing themselves to within two of the Huskies. They went back down seven following two straight baskets by the Huskies, but clawed back to within two once again over the next minute of play with a pair of Brown free throws and a three-pointer from Karsten. However, the Huskies closed out the quarter with two straight layups to lead 50-44 after three.

The Pride cut their deficit to four, 50-46, following a second-chance layup from Hines to start the fourth quarter. Northeastern then scored 11 of the next 15 points to open a 61-50 lead with 1:41 to go on the clock. Hofstra scored four of the final five points with a Hines jumper and two Hernandez Gil free throws.

Hofstra will travel to Elon University for the CAA Tournament on March 6-8. The Pride will play as the 10-seed and take on seventh-seeded Elon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
