INSIDE THE SERIES
Hofstra leads in the all-time series against the Seahawks, 19-18. The series dates back to the 2001-02 season when Hofstra won, 58-51. Last season, Hofstra dropped both regular season contests against
UNCW, first on February 1 on the road, 89-54 and later at home on March 3, 61-51. The Seahawks have won four-straight contests with the Pride, and the last time that Hofstra defeated
UNCW was on January 7, 2018 by a score of 69-61.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Earlier this season when the two teams met, Hofstra rallied from a nine-point deficit with under two minutes to play in the game to pull within one, but UNCW was able to outlast the Pride, 62-59.
Jaylen Hines led the Pride with 16 points and nine rebounds.
JaKayla Brown came off the bench to score 12 points while
Sorelle Ineza had 11 points.
Ana Hernandez Gil had nine points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc. For UNCW, Lacey Suggs had 17 points for UNCW and added seven rebounds. Carole-Anne Obusek chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds, and five blocks. Ahyiona Vason had 10 points and five assists.
A WIN OVER UNCW WOULD…
- Give Hofstra its fourth win of the season and 20th win over UNCW in program history
- Give Hofstra its first CAA win of the season
- Be the 718th known victory in the history of Hofstra women's basketball and 474th at the NCAA Division I level.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS (8-18, 5-10 CAA)
After suffering a five-game losing streak, UNCW is back in the win column with two-straight victories, most recently against Northeastern on Friday night at the Trask Coliseum, 61-48. Gigi Smith led UNCW with 21 points, while Lacey Suggs added 18 and Ahyiona Vason added 12.
Smith leads the Seahawks with 14.0 points per game, while Suggs follows with 12.5. Suggs also paces the team with 5.3 rebounds per game. Vason rounds out the top-three scorers with 9.7 points per night.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE (3-24, 0-16 CAA)
Hofstra is coming off a hard-fought loss against the College of Charleston on Friday evening. Hofstra rallied from a 22-point third quarter deficit and made it a two-point game with 40 seconds remaining, but a Hofstra three-point attempt with four seconds remaining fell just short and Charleston was able to grab the rebound, forcing Hofstra to foul.
Jaylen Hines netted a career-high 30 points (11-of-14 FG) while grabbing 12 rebounds to earn her fourth double double of the season. Freshman
Sorelle Ineza finished with 14 points, which was second on the team.
Hines is now averaging 11.3 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game on a team-best 48 percent shooting effort. Senior
Marianne Kalin is second on the team with 8.8 points per game and redshirt junior guard
Ana Hernandez Gil posts an average of 8.6 points per game.

Marianne Kalin,
Sandra Karsten,
Petja Krupenko and
Ana Hernandez Gil prior to the contest.
