BB: Hofstra Powers Past Nevada

Reno, NV - Alex Sica was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs, Santino Rosso was 2-4 with a home run, and Rob Weissheier drove in a pair of runs to back the strong start of Ryan Rue as Hofstra defeated Nevada Saturday afternoon, 7-2, at Don Weir Field.

Rue (1-1) struck out seven over seven innings, scattering five hits and allowing one run before a pair of Pride relievers – Lucas Hall and Brad Camarda - came on for the final two innings.

Sica hit his first career home run, a solo shot down the left field line, in the second to open the scoring. The Hofstra designated hitter drove home a second run in the fourth with a single that made it a 2-0 game. The Wolf Pack cut the deficit in half in the fourth after back-to-back doubles and a groundout but Rosso hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it 3-1.

Hofstra broke the game open in the eighth with four runs. Austin Gauthier had an RBI double, Anthony D'Onofrio added an RBI single, and Weissheier hit a two-run double to cap the scoring.

Dillan Schrum hit a solo home run for Nevada in the eighth inning to give the Wolf Pack their final run. Shane O'Malley (0-2) took the loss for Nevada after allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings.

Hofstra, which won its second game over Nevada in as many days, improved to 3-7 on the year. Nevada fell to 0-8.
