Hempstead, NY - Freshman point guard
Sorelle Ineza scored 10 points to lead Hofstra for the second straight game but James Madison defeated the Pride, 89-52, Sunday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Ineza had 10 points and four assists for the Pride and was the only Hofstra player in double-figures.
Sandra Karsten and
Ana Hernandez Gil each chipped in with nine points while
Marianne Kalin added eight.
Jaylen Hines had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Dukes led after one quarter, 19-13. Hofstra took a 6-5 lead on the Dukes on Ineza's second three-pointer with 5:40 to go. Â The Dukes answered with a three of their own on the next possession to take an 8-6 lead. That started an 8-1 run for the Dukes that resulted in a 13-7 lead with 2:44 to go after Rayne Tucker's steal and fast break layup. Hofstra showed some fight and scored five unanswered points to get within one, 13-12 with 1:28 to go. James Madison would score six of the final seven points to take the six-point advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Neither team started strong in the second quarter as the Dukes scored the only three points over the first 2:55 to take a 22-13 lead. The Dukes would go up by 11, 26-15, before Hernandez Gil drained a three-pointer from the top of the arc to make it an eight-point game, 26-18, with 4:15 to play in the quarter. However, the Dukes outscored the Pride 12-4 the rest of the way to take a 16-point advantage, 38-22, into halftime.
James Madison pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Pride 26-14 to lead 64-36. Kamiah Smalls led the way for the Dukes with nine points in the third quarter. Karsten had seven of the Pride's 14 points in the stanza. James Madison would see the lead grow to 35 points (79-44) in the fourth quarter after the Dukes went on an 11-0 run. JMU's largest lead of the game would be 37 (84-47) with 3:07 to play.
Smalls led the Dukes with 20 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. Kiki Jefferson added 16 points while Tucker had 12 points. Hofstra fell to 3-23 on the season and 0-15 in league play. The Dukes moved to 21-4 overall and 12-2 in the CAA.
Hofstra is back in action Friday night (Feb. 28) at Charleston. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

-The game was designated as a Play4Kay game in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Hofstra wore pink uniforms while James Madison wore white with pink accents.
-Hofstra shot 43-percent from three-point range (6-14)
-James Madison leads the all-time series, 27-10, and swept both games in 2019-20.
