WREST: Hofstra Closes Regular Season With 38-3 Victory Over Sacred Heart

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra won eight of the nine contested matches and defeated Sacred Heart, 38-3, Saturday afternoon in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The match was the final regular season contest for the Pride, who finished the season with a record of 11-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the EIWA.

The teams split the first two matches with Vinny Vespa winning an 8-6 decision over the Pioneers Gerard Daly. Nick Palumbo evened the match at 149 with a 6-2 decision over Reece Heller. Hofstra then reeled off wins in the next seven bouts that took place beginning with a win by first period fall from Holden Heller at 157 pounds over Shaun Williams.

Ricky Stamm defeated Brandon Levesque at 165, 6-5, Sage Heller had a 3-2 decision over Joe Accousti, and Charles Small picked up a 7-5 sudden victory decision over Kyle Davis at 184. Davis is ranked 32nd in the nation by Wrestlestat. Trey Rogers scored a major decision at 197 over Nick Fierro, 22-11, while Zachary Knighton-Ward majored Dante DelBonis at 285, 11-3.

Dylan Ryder closed things out on the mat with a first period fall on Sean Faraon at 125. Sacred Heart forfeited at 133 pounds.

Sacred Heart fell to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in conference with the loss.

Hofstra returns to action at the EIWA Championships in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on March 6-7.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 12-0 all-time against Sacred Heart
-Hofstra has won eight consecutive dual meets, its longest streak since the 2011-12 season.
-Hofstra finished undefeated in EIWA play for the first time since joining the league in 2013-14 and for the first time in any conference since 2007-08 (CAA).
-Ryder picked up his fifth win by fall of the season, which is third on the team.
-Holden Heller earned his fourth win by fall.
-Rogers major decision was his team-leading seventh of the year.
-Ryder, Sage Heller, and Rogers enter the EIWA's on eight-match win streaks.
