BB: Hofstra Drops Two At La Salle

Philadelphia, PA - La Salle rallied from a 3-0 deficit and scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to post a 4-3 victory over Hofstra in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers took game two, 14-3.

Hofstra (1-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, sending nine men to the plate. Austin Gauthier led off with a double and went to third on a bunt single from Ryan Morash. Anthony D'Onofrio continued his torrid start with a bunt single that plated Gauthier. A single from Rob Weissheier loaded the bases and the Pride took advantage of a pair of walks to Sean Flaherty and Alex Sica to take the 3-0 lead.

La Salle (3-2) would score twice in the sixth on an RBI single from Ross Mulhall and a throwing error on the play, and then added the tying and winning runs in the ninth. Alfonse Sadallah led off the inning with a single and went to third on a single from Elijah Dickerson. A wild pitch brought in the tying run and send Dickerson to second. Following an intentional walk, another wild pitch put runners on second and third. Following a strikeout, Ryan Guckin reached on an infield single to drive home Dickerson with the winning run.

Jack Jett started for Hofstra and went three scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out five. Jimmy Joyce (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Colin Kennedy (1-0) earned the win in relief for La Salle, allowing no runs and no hits over two innings. Colin Scanlon started for La Salle and allowed five hive hits and three runs with nine strikeouts in seven innings.

In the nightcap, Hofstra struck first again as Gauthier homered leading off the game and D'Onofrio scored on wild pitch for a 2-0 first inning lead. The Pride would lead 3-1 after the top of the second following an RBI single from D'Onofrio. However, the Explorers scored six runs in the second and never looked back in the 11-run win. Sadallah had a two-run single in the inning and Jack Cucinotta added a two-run home run.

Steven Boscia (0-1) started and took the loss for Hofstra, allowing seven runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. Gauthier, D'Onofrio, and Brian Goulard each had two hits for the Pride.
