WBB: Ineza's Career High Not Enough As Hofstra Falls To Towson

Hempstead, NY – Sorelle Ineza scored a career-high 18 points but Towson pulled away from the Pride in the third quarter in a 71-54 Colonial Athletic Association victory Friday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Tigers outscored the Pride, 21-11, in the third quarter after the teams were tied at halftime.

Hofstra fell to 3-22 on the season and 0-14 in CAA play. Towson moved to 13-11 overall and 8-5 in league play with its third consecutive victory.

Ineza shot 8-16 from the floor, including 2-3 from three-point range, on her way to her career-best. The freshman also added five rebounds and two assists. Marianne Kalin had nine points and nine rebounds for the Pride. JaKayla Brown chipped in with nine points and six boards while Jaylen Hines had six points and eight rebounds.

Towson jumped out to a 5-0 lead 2:00 into the game in what was a low scoring first quarter. The Pride would eventually tie the score at 10 with 1:53 to go in the quarter on an Ineza jumper. The teams traded baskets on each of their next two possessions before the Caria Reynolds recorded a block for the Pride on Towson's third trip up the floor. Ineza was able to beat the buzzer and give the Pride a 16-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

Ineza would put the Pride up, 21-19, with 7:31 to play in the second quarter with a three-pointer. Neither team would score for the next 2:30 before Ineza hit a long two-pointer to put Hofstra up by four. The Tigers would tie the score at 25 on a Kionna Jeter three-pointer and then took the lead, 28-25 on Nukiya Mayo's three with 3:32 remaining. Reynolds added a big play on the offensive end as well as her three-point play with 59 seconds to go tied the score at 30 as the teams went into halftime all knotted up.

The Tigers opened the third quarter with a 7-3 spurt to take a 37-33 lead with 6:59 to play after a three-point play from Mayo. But Ineza struck again with a three-pointer on Hofstra's next possession to make it a one-point game, 37-36. Towson would respond with a 7-0 run to open a 44-36 advantage with 4:21 to play. Jeter started the run with a three and Lakaitlin Wright followed with a pair of buckets. The Towson lead would grow to 12, 51-39, with 1:08 to go before the Pride cut it to 10 at the end of the quarter, 51-41.

The Pride started strong in the fourth, cutting their deficit to seven, 53-46, following a pair of free throws from Kalin. But Jeter had a steal and layup for Towson, putting the Tigers back up by nine and the Pride would not get closer than that the rest of the way.

Mayo and Jeter led Towson with 24 and 17 points, respectively. Mayo added a game-high 11 rebounds. Q. Murray and Wright also finished in double-figure scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
