Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Rachel Vogel

WBB: Hofstra Falls at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Redshirt sophomore Jaylen Hines recorded 18 points, including 12 in the second half as the Hofstra women's basketball team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association contest to the William & Mary Tribe, 71-42 at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Hines day came from a 7-of-13 effort from the floor and 4-of-4 performance from the free throw line. The forward also added five rebounds and one block and one steal.

Leading Hofstra on the boards for the second-straight game was sophomore Caria Reynolds, who hauled down a season-high 10 rebounds, one shy of her career-high, while also finishing second on the team in scoring with seven points. Freshman Sorelle Ineza and senior Sandra Karsten chipped in five points for the Pride.

It was all William & Mary from the start, as the Tribe scored the first 19 points of the game and didn't miss a field goal until the 1:19 mark in the opening frame. Kalin finally broke things up at the 3:18 mark in the first quarter to open scoring for Hofstra. The Tribe shot 85 percent from the field (11-of-13) during the first 10 minutes, and did not let up in through second quarter as the home team held a 43-15 advantage at halftime.

Hofstra found a groove to start the second half, especially Hines who recorded eight-straight points for Hofstra within the first 2:24 of the third quarter. Hines finished the third quarter without a blemish as she shot 4-of-4 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line during the 10-minute span.

The Pride caught a bit of momentum while closing out the third period and starting the fourth, as the Hofstra got six-straight points including four from Reynolds and two from Ineza.

The Blue and Gold improved defensively throughout the remainder of the quarter and limited William & Mary to a game-low 13 points in the final frame.

Bre Bellamy led William & Mary in scoring with 18 points, and Victoria Reynolds added 13. Hofstra limited W&M's Eva Hodgson, the fifth-leading scorer in the nation who also leads the CAA in that category, to just eight points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field.

Hofstra dropped to 2-21 overall and 0-13 in the conference. William & Mary improved to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the CAA.

Hofstra returns home next weekend for a pair of games against Towson and James Madison. The Pride will host the Tigers of Towson on Friday, February 21 at 7 p.m. before the Dukes of James Madison visit Hempstead on Sunday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Sunday's game will also serve as Hofstra's Play 4 Kay game.
