ELON, N.C. – Two Pride players finished in double figures but the Hofstra women's basketball team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association contest to the Elon Phoenix on Friday evening.
Freshman
Sorelle Ineza led Hofstra with a season-high 16 points from a 6-of-12 effort from the field with a pair of three-pointers. Joining Ineza in double figures was senior
Sandra Karsten who tallied 11 points (5-of-7 FG) while also pulling down three rebounds. Two Pride players led on the boards including redshirt sophomore
Jaylen Hines and sophomore
Caria Reynolds who each pulled down seven, while Reynolds finished third on the team with seven points. Sophomore
JaKayla Brown rounded out the leaders with six points, five rebounds and three assists.
The first quarter was composed entirely of runs, as Elon jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Pride in the first 2:06, but Hofstra responded with a 9-0 run and held Elon scoreless until the 2:15 mark in the first. The Phoenix responded with a 9-0 spurt to take a 17-9 advantage into the second quarter. The Pride got back within six on two occasions, first with a pair of free throws by Ineza and again with an Ineza jump shot, but Elon stretched the lead back out with a 9-2 run. The Phoenix reached a lead as large as 13 in the first half, but a two-point basket by Brown cut the Elon advantage to 11 at the break.
Elon pulled away from Hofstra in the third quarter, outscoring the Pride 19-11 in the frame. Hofstra did go on to win the fourth quarter, however, scoring 15 points to Elon's 13. Reynolds was particularly efficient in the fourth quarter, scoring all seven of her points in the frame.
Three Phoenix players finished with double figures including Kayla Liles (15), Saadia Munford (13) and Jaylin Powell (10).
