STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Hofstra women's basketball team cut a 21-point deficit to just four points with nearly six minutes remaining, but the Stony Brook Seawolves escaped with a 63-52 victory over the Pride in the Long Island Rivalry on Monday evening at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
Three Pride players reached double figures, led by redshirt junior
Jaylen Hines who scored all 11 of her points underneath the 8:06 minute mark in the fourth quarter when she shot 3-of-4 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line during the final frame. She also added six rebounds for the Pride.

Jaala Henry finished with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting while junior
JaKayla Brown added 10 points as well. Brown also matched her career-high with rebounds while Knight added a team-high four assists, and junior
Rosi Nicholson tacked on eight points and five boards.
Hofstra struggled to get things going offensively in the first half as Stony Brook took a 37-18 lead over the Pride into the locker room. Following a Stony Brook layup with 7:33 on the clock in the third period, Knight scored five-straight points for Hofstra within a 32-second span, cutting the Stony Brook lead to 41-27. After Stony Brook stole four of those five points back, Hofstra went on a 7-0 run and held the Seawolves off the scoreboard for about four minutes, but SBU's Earlette Scott made a layup with six seconds to go in the stanza to end the Seawolves scoring drought.
Knight opened up the fourth quarter scoring with a steal and layup to make it a 10-point game, 47-37 in favor of Stony Brook. About a minute later, Hines scored seven-straight points for the Pride in exactly 100 seconds, cutting the Stony Brook advantage to just four points on two occasions. Stony Brook took all momentum back however as the home team scored 11-straight points to secure the rivalry win.
Hofstra is scheduled to return to the floor against Fordham on Friday, December 18 for its final non-conference road test of the 2020-21 slate. Tip-off at Rose Hill Gymnasium is set for 7 p.m. This event is closed to the public and no tickets will be sold. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
NOTES:
-Hofstra continues to lead the all-time series lead over Stony Brook, 7-5, however Stony Brook has won the last four meetings dating back to the 2016-17 season.
-Hofstra has caused at least 20 turnovers in all five meetings this season. The Pride forced 21 turnovers against Stony Brook.
-The Pride won the battle of the boards, 39-36
-Brown, Knight and Hines have all recorded double figures in all but one game this season.
