VB: Pride Travels To Towson On Sunday

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra volleyball team has just one match on the schedule this week as the Pride will head to longtime rival Towson on Sunday for a 12 p.m. match.

Hofstra is 8-6 overall and 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play after sweeping William & Mary this past Sunday. 

Senior Laura Masciullo, who is is four kills shy of becoming only the fifth player in program history to reach 1,500 career kills, leads the team with 195 kills this season. Junior Ana Martinovic ranks second with 136 kills and also has 125 digs. On the defensive end, junior Juliana Vaz has picked up 223 digs, while senior Luisa Sydlik is second with 143. Sydlik, who leads the Pride with 571 assists, now has 3,846 career assists and is 17 shy of fourth place all-time (Lindsey Birkel - 3,863 from 1996-99). Junior Dubravka Krakovic has 44 blocks to carry the team in that category and Sydlik has also notched a team-high 14 service aces. 

Towson enters the week, they also play Northeastern on Friday, with a 12-2 overall mark and a 2-0 CAA record. They opened up league play with wins over Delaware and James Madison. Emily Jarome leads the team with 144 kills, while Olivia Finckel is second with 136. Marissa Wonders has dished out 510 assists to rank first in that category, while Camryn Allen has a team-best 183 digs and Lydia Wiers has posted 60 blocks. 

Hofstra is 45-17 all-time against Towson and went 2-1 against the Tigers a season ago. The teams split the regular season meetings with each winning on the road before Hofstra captured an exciting five-set win over Towson in the semifinals of the CAA Championship. Towson is Hofstra's second-most played opponent all-time as the 62 all-time meetings are second to the Pride's 71 meetings with Delaware.
