Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Tennis team saw three singles players, as well as three doubles teams, advance to the semifinals of their respective flights as day one of the Hofstra Invitational wrapped up at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Courts Friday evening. 
 
Katherine Kachkarov picked up a pair of wins at A Singles to move to the semifinals. The Pride sophomore defeated Wagner's Fidan Khalizade, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 16 and followed that with an impressive win over Maja Makal of Queens College, 6-4, 7-5. Makal recently won the Division II ITA East Region championship to qualify for next month's ITA National Championship. Kachkarov will face Luisa Aufarth of Queens in Saturday's semifinal.
 
The Pride has a pair of C Singles semifinalists in Mandisa Walle and Alabina Zaganjor. Walle defeated Wagner's Melanie Post in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-0, to advance, while Zaganjor downed Siena's Sarah Marro, 6-3, 6-2. Walle will meet Lovisa Engstrand (Queens) in one semifinal, while Zaganjor will face Mana Koitabashi of Queens in the other. 
 
The doubles teams of Kachkarov and Alejandra Ruffini and Maddie Brown and Jasmine King advanced to the semifinals of the A Doubles Draw. Kachkarov and Ruffini posted a 6-4 victory over Louisa Brunetti and Engstraand (Queens) in the quarterfinals and will take on Valentina Dancenco and Sofiya Kuzina (LIU) in the semifinals. Brown and King recorded a 6-1 win against Meagan Brown and Anastasia Koniaev of Siena, and will meet Elinor Storkaas and Bianca Compuesto of LIU in the other semifinal match. 
 
Ronia Dolabany and Odessa Stork will be looking for their second doubles title of the season at the B Flight. The duo defeated Ruth Artaza Martin and Koitabashi of Queens in the quarterfinals to advance to face Wagner's Diana Pinzauri and Post in the semifinals. 
 
Day two of the Hofstra Invitational begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the completion of the doubles draw followed by singles play.
