FH: Larsson Nets Two As Hofstra Tops Bryant In A Shootout For Third Straight Win

Providence, RI – Hofstra sophomore Cami Larsson tallied two goals in the first half and then added two shootout goals including the game-winner in the sixth round as the Pride captured their third consecutive victory with a 3-2 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs at the Goldberger Family Field at Brown University Friday evening.

The Pride, who are now 3-4 on the season, opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest as Larsson took a pass from senior Madison Warfel and beat Bulldog goalie Marijn Jaarsma for a 1-0 lead. It was Larsson's third goal of the season but first non-penalty stroke tally after two this year.

Bryant tied the game in the second quarter when freshman Isa Oldekamp scored the Bulldogs first goal of the season off a pass from senior Freya Ward. But the tie score was short-lived as just 1:40 later Larsson scored her second of the contest off a pass from freshman Mercedes Currie to give Hofstra a 2-1 advantage.

The Bulldogs tied the contest for a second time with 5:30 to play in the third quarter when sophomore Eva Bazen scored an unassisted goal. While the Pride played defense most of the fourth quarter, neither team could score the game-winner in regulation or the two 10-minute overtime periods.

In the shootout, junior Frankie O'Brien and Larsson scored with Ward and junior Kylie Nelson scoring for Bryant in the first round of five. Larsson's goal was a flip over the head of Jaarsma in the fourth round that tied the shootout at 2-2.

As the teams entered the sudden-victory part of the shootout, Larsson was the hero once again, moving to her left and beating the Bulldog goalie while falling down to give the Pride the victory.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, September 22 when the Pride face Brown at the Goldberger Family Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
