MSOC: Hofstra Dominates Charleston For First CAA Victory

Mount Pleasant, SC - Adam Savill converted a penalty kick late in the first half and Hofstra added two second half goals as the Pride picked up a 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Charleston Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point.

Hofstra moved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in CAA play. The Cougars slipped to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Jason Ramirez drew the foul from the Charleston defender as he dribbled down the right side of the box. Savill then calmly put the penalty kick past Charleston keeper Isaac Alstrom at the 41:42 mark.

The Pride did not let up in the second half, but rather dominated play. Hofstra outshot Charleston, 15-5, in the second half and tacked on two more goals. Savill sent a pass into the box and Hendrik Hebbeker one-touched it to Frederik Rieper, who slid a shot by Alstrom for a 2-0 lead at 71:54. About six minutes later, Petter Soelberg's service into the box got all the way through and found the back of the net for the final goal of the day.

Alex Ashton made three saves in goal for the Pride, including two late in the game to preserve the shutout.

Hofstra will return to action Wednesday night when it hosts Stony Brook in the Long Island Rivalry presented by The Greene Turtle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
