MSOC: Early Goals Lift Stony Brook Past Hofstra

Hempstead, NY - Stony Brook scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half and held off Hofstra, 2-1, Wednesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The game was part of the Long Island Rivalry, presented by The Greene Turtle.

Hofstra slipped to 3-3 on the season while Stony Brook won its second consecutive game to improve to 2-3-1.

The Seawolves got on the board in the 12th minute as Jarred Dass converted a penalty kick following a Pride foul in the box. Trausti Birgisson followed that up with an unassisted goal in the 15th minute that made it a 2-0 game.

Hofstra, which pressured the Seawolves in the half with 12 shots, cut the deficit in half in the 21st minute as George O'Malley headed in the rebound of his own shot. But that would be all for the Pride as the Stony Brook defense clamped down on the Pride in the second half and allowed just three shots in the final 45 minutes, none on goal.

Alex Ashton had two saves for the Pride, while Edmond Kaiser stopped three shots for Stony Brook.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday night when it hosts Elon at 7 p.m.
