Katherine Kachkarov and
Maddie Brown advanced in their respective singles flights on day one of the 2019 Columbia Invitational.
Kachkarov defeated Jordan Williams of Colgate, 6-4, 6-2, in the Queens Draw quarterfinals and will face Christie Wan of Columbia in the semifinals. Brown posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Willa Bay Bruenich of St. John's in the Bronx Draw quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals against Columbia's Shivani Amineni.
The Pride's
Alejandra Ruffini (Brooklyn Draw),
Jasmine King (Manhattan Draw),
Ronia Dolabany (Nassau Draw),
Odessa Stork (Nassau Draw),
Mandisa Walle (Suffolk Draw), and
Brooklyn Samuels (Suffolk Draw) each lost their opening matches and will compete in the consolation bracket Saturday.
Hofstra's three doubles teams – Ruffini/Kachkarov, King/Brown, and Stork/Dolabany, also lost their quarterfinal matchups and will compete in the consolation brackets as well.
Day two of the Columbia Invitational gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m.
