WSOC: Hofstra Prepares for Two-Match Homestand

OPENING KICKOFF
After another 1-1 week including an exciting double overtime win over Long Island rival, Stony Brook, the Hofstra women's soccer team will get back at it with two-straight home contests. The Pride will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Columbia to town on Sunday, September 15 at 1 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE HOFSTRA PRIDE
Hofstra (3-3) is coming off its third-straight 1-1 week after dropping a road contest to No. 21 Rutgers, 4-1 before clinching a 2-1 double overtime victory against Stony Brook. Several players stepped up this past week, including junior forward Lucy Shepherd who scored Hofstra's lone goal against Rutgers before assisting on both tallied against Stony Brook. In addition, sophomore midfielder Miri Taylor recorded an assist against Stony Brook before notching her first goal of the season, the game-winning strike against the Seawolves in the 104th minute of action. Junior midfielder Lucy Porter continued her offensive dominance, adding her sixth goal of the season on Sunday while adding one assist against Rutgers.

Inside the Series:
Hofstra has never lost against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, leading the series, 6-0-1. Hofstra holds a four-match win streak dating back to the 2007 season. The last time that the teams met was last season when Hofstra won, 2-1 in double overtime on the road.
 
About the FDU Knights (1-2-3, 0-0-0):
Fairleigh Dickinson is entering the contest not having won a match since the season opener against Alabama State on Thursday, August 22. FDU's roster features a very balanced offensive attack with only one player recording multiple goals this year in Sofia Albertsson who has two, while eight other players have scored one goal each including All-NEC First Team performer, Stasi Torchia. Amanda Fitzgerald, the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week, has played a majority of minutes in goal, making 24 saves with a .774 save percentage. As a team, Fairleigh Dickinson currently ranks second in the NEC with nine goals, with six of those occurring against Alabama State. Since then, FDU has only scored three goals while surrendering six.

Inside the Series:
Hofstra leads the series, 8-4-2 against the Columbia Lions. Hofstra is riding an eight-match unbeaten streak against Columbia dating back to 2008. The last time the teams met was last season when the Pride won on the road, 2-0.
 
About the Columbia Lions (2-1-1, 0-0-0):
Columbia will face St. Joseph's on Thursday, September 12, but entering that contest, the Lions have won two-straight matches against Fordham and Rider. Similar to FDU, six different players have scored all six goals for the Lions, with team captain Maddie Temares leading the team with four points. Liz Matei has played all 380 minutes in goal while recording 17 saves, 1.42 goals against average and 0.739 save percentage. Columbia currently ranks seventh out of eight teams in the Ivy League in goals per game and fifth with 4.75 points per game.
 
UP NEXT
Hofstra will close out its non-conference schedule with a road match at the University Pennsylvania on Friday, September 20 with match time set for 6 p.m.
