MSOC: Hofstra Blanks Fordham In Season Opener

Hempstead, NY - Hendrik Hebbeker's scored a first half penalty kick goal and the Pride defense made it stand as Hofstra came away with an opening night, 1-0, victory over Fordham at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride moved to 1-0 on the season with the win, while Fordham dropped to 0-1.

Hebbeker's goal game at the 9:59 mark after a foul in the box. The sophomore from Germany converted the penalty kick into the lower right corner for his first career goal. From there the Hofstra defense took over.
Fordham was able to apply pressure throughout the game, but the Pride refused to yield the equalizer. Goalkeeper Alex Ashton made six saves and was helped by a team defensive save that prevented a goal late in the second half.

Fordham finished with 14 shots on the day while Hofstra tallied 13. Petter Soelberg took four shots to pace the Pride offense while Sameer Fathazada had six shots for the Rams.

Fordham keeper Konstantin Weis had three saves.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday night at UMBC. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is unbeaten in its last eight season openers (6-0-2)
-The Pride is 20-8-3 in home openers under 31st-year Head Coach Richard Nuttall.
-The game was a bit chippy with nine yellow cards issued in total.
