OPENING KICKOFF
After a 1-1 opening week, the Hofstra Pride Women's Soccer team will return to action with an away contest at Brown on Friday, August 30 (7 p.m.) before returning to the Hofstra Soccer Stadium for the 2019 home opener against Fordham on Sunday, September 1 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE HOFSTRA PRIDE
Despite a loss against the sixth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions last Sunday, Hofstra posted a solid 1-0 shutout win over the three-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions, the Monmouth Hawks in its season opener. Scoring Hofstra's lone goal of the weekend was junior midfielder

Sabrina Bryan was knocking on the door all weekend long, recording a team-high four shots, with three of those opportunities coming on target. Defensively, freshman goalkeeper
Skylar Kuzmich made nine total saves across the two matches while stopping all five shots she faced against the Hawks.
In addition to several returners who sustained their starting position from last season, several newcomers saw substantial minutes for the Pride during opening weekend, including Kuzmich, freshman defender
Annabel Hofmann and junior midfielder,
Amanda Ebbesson.

The Pride and Brown will meet for just the second time in program history, with Hofstra earning the win in the series opener. The last time the teams met was during the 2004 season when Hofstra won, 2-1.
About the Brown Bears:
Friday's contest will be the season opener for the Brown Bears, who were picked to finish sixth in the 2019 Ivy League Women's Soccer Preseason Media Poll after finishing the 2018 season with an 8-8-1 mark. The Bears return all five of their All-Ivy selections from a year ago, including a trio of two-time All-Ivy choices in Abby Carchio and juniors Sydney Cummings and Star White. Brown also brings back 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the year, Rebecca Roses and junior All-Ivy selection, Cameron Brown in addition to two-time All-Ivy pick, Celia Story.

Hofstra owns a dominating 14-2-1 record over Fordham, including an eight-match win streak dating back to the 2005 season. The last time the teams met was last season when Hofstra won on the road, 3-1.
About the Fordham Rams:
Fordham (0-2-0) faced two very tough opponents to open the 2019 season, including No. 10 Tennessee and Rutgers, who received votes in the first United Soccer Coaches Association poll of the season. Senior forward Amanda Miller scored the one goal for the Rams, occurring against the Volunteers. Within the Atlantic 10, Fordham was picked as the favorite in the league after making the A10 Championship for the third time in the last four seasons. The team returns a significant amount of experience from a year ago, led by 2018 leading scorer Margaret Roughley and Juliana Mascelli.
