Vito Friscia went 3-4 with three RBIs and
Sean Flaherty had two hits and four RBIs as Hofstra put up a season-high run total in a 16-8 victory at LIU Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon at LIU Field. The Pride had 15 hits in the game, which matched their season best.
Hofstra moved to 15-28 on the season with the win while the Blackbirds dropped to 18-28 with the loss.
The Pride scored four runs in the first as Friscia had a two-run home run, Flaherty an RBI double and
Tyler White an RBI single. After the Blackbirds responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, the Pride tacked on a run in the second on an RBI double from Friscia and then broke the game wide open with four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. In the fourth
Rob Weissheier had an RBI double,
Austin Gauthier a sacrifice fly, and Flaherty capped things off with a two-run home run. It was the freshman's first career round-tripper.
Austin Pollack (double) and Friscia (single) opened the fifth inning with back-to-back hits. Weissheier and Gauthier followed with walks to drive in a run. Flaherty hit a fielder's choice grounder that plated the second run of the inning while
Anthony D'Onofrio followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 12-3 in favor of the Pride.
LIU Brooklyn loaded the bases in the fifth against
Jack Anderson but scored just one run as the sophomore lefty recorded two big strikeouts in the inning.
The Pride would get three more runs in the seventh as White drew a bases loaded walk,
Alex Sica drove in a run on a fielder's choice and
Vinnie Costello had an RBI single. The Blackbirds answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it 15-7. D'Onofrio drove in the final Hofstra run in the eighth with a single up the middle that plated
Sean Rausch. LIU Brooklyn added a run in the eighth as well to account for the final score.
Steven Boscia started for the Pride and went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Anderson (3-0) was credited with the win after pitching two innings and allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Jonathan Sell, the first of eight LIU Brooklyn pitchers took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits in the first inning. Gregory Vaughn had three hits for LIU Brooklyn while Brock Hallum added a hit and two RBIs.
Hofstra is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. The game is the Pride's final non-conference contest of the season.

-Hofstra's previous season-high in runs was 14 against Saint Peter's.
-10 of 11 Hofstra batters recorded hits.
-Gauthier and D'Onofrio each had two hits and a sacrifice fly on the day.
-8 of Hofstra's 15 hits were for extra-bases (6 doubles, 2 home runs)
-Flaherty doubled his season RBI total in the game and now has eight.
-Friscia extended his hitting streak to nine games and his on-base streak to 25.
-Pollack scored four runs in the game.
-Friscia's eighth home run of the season matched his career-high set in 2017 and was the 25th of his career.
-Hofstra is 27-24 all-time against LIU Brooklyn. The teams split a home and home series this year.
