Hempstead, NY – Hofstra rallied from an 11-3 deficit to force extra innings but in the end, Mother Nature prevailed as the game ended in an 11-11 tie after 12 innings due to darkness. It was Hofstra's first tie since April 28, 2010 against NYIT (12-12).
Hofstra trailed 11-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and chipped away at the lead before tying the game with three runs in the bottom of the ninth. The Pride scored two runs in the sixth on
Rob Weissheier's home run and then added two more runs in the seventh on a bases loaded hit by pitch and an RBI single from
Austin Gauthier.
Parker Quinn led off the eighth with a solo home run that made it 11-8 and set up the Pride for a dramatic ninth inning comeback.
Austin Pollack walked, and
Vito Friscia followed with a single. After the next two batters were retired, Quinn drew a walk to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Pollack to score and make it a two-run game.
Anthony D'Onofrio then delivered a two-run triple to tie the score and send it to extra innings.
Hofstra (15-28-1) had a great chance in the 10th as
Sean Rausch tripled to lead off the inning.
Tyler White then lifted a fly ball to right that was caught. Rausch attempted to score and was thrown out on a strike from Sacred Heart right fielder Elijah Brown.
