HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball season ended prematurely, as the regular season finale between Hofstra and Elon was rained out on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the weather, the softball program recognized its two seniors,
Lydia Witkowski and
Courtney Scarpato for their dedication to the Hofstra softball program for the past four years. Hofstra also recognized the 2018 CAA Championship team with a special ring presentation ceremony.
Hofstra concluded its 2019 campaign with a 20-27 overall mark while posting a 7-13 Colonial Athletic Association record. The team finished with a .305 combined batting average which tied for the fourth-best in program history. In addition, the Pride tied the program record for stolen bases in a single season (77), matching Hofstra's total from 2008. Leading the team in stolen bases was
Kristin Hallam who set a program record with 34 swipes in one season.
In addition, Hallam tallied 47 total runs which tied for the sixth-most in a single season in program history, while freshman sensation
Meghan Giordano tied for third on the all-time single season RBI list with 53. Giordano was consistently in the top-10 in the CAA in batting average from start to finish, leading the team with a .378 clip. She also drew 30 walks on the year, tying for the fifth-most in a single season at Hofstra.
Heading into the 2020 campaign, Hallam, a rising senior, will look to continue to lead the Pride in several statistical categories while also climbing in the career record books. With her first stolen base next season, Hallam will have 56 for her career, a Hofstra record. Hallam will also look to crack into the top-10 all-time with three more runs scored.
At the conclusion of the season, Hofstra finished ranked inside the top-50 nationally in various categories. Hofstra's 0.73 double plays per game are first in the nation, while its team batting average of .305 ranks 32nd throughout all of Division I. The Pride also finished its regular season 36th in the country with 1.58 stolen bases per game. Individually, Giordano finished her rookie campaign 12th in RBI per game and 17th in total RBI, while Hallam is 11th in total stolen bases and 31st in runs per game.
