Brookline, MA - Kyle Murphy allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings and the Huskies scored five times in the third inning as Northeastern took the rubber game of a three-game series, 7-3, Sunday at Friedman Diamond.
Hofstra fell to 5-21 overall and 1-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Huskies moved above .500 overall at 16-15 and are 6-3 in league action.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Huskies to begin the third inning. Corey DiLoreto delivered two runs with a single before Northeastern loaded the bases once again. A wild pitch brought in a third run, while Ryan Solomon drew a bases loaded walk to plate the fourth. Michael Geaslen capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Hofstra rallied in the fourth, scoring three runs.
Kevin O'Connor doubled in the first run and then came around to score on
Austin Gauthier's double. Gauthier would come in on a single by
Tyler White.
Northeastern added insurance runs in the seventh and the eighth.
Ryan Rue (1-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Andrew Munday followed with 4 2/3 innings of relief and allowed one run on three hits before
Jack Anderson went the final inning and allowed a run on two hits.
Murphy (4-2) struck out six batters and did not walk anyone in his stint. David Stiehl and Andrew Misiaszek followed with a scoreless inning each.
Hofstra returns to action Tuesday when it starts a five-game home stand by hosting Monmouth at 3 p.m.
