BB: Austin Powers! Pollack Homers As Hofstra Defeats Monmouth

Hempstead, NY - Austin Pollack went 3-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two stolen bases to pace an 11-hit outburst by the Hofstra offense in a 4-1 victory over Monmouth Tuesday afternoon at University Field. Freshman pitcher Mark Faello recorded his first career win with five scoreless innings.

The Pride moved to 6-21 on the season with the win, their second in three games at home. Monmouth slipped to 11-18-1 with the loss, its fourth consecutive setback.

Pollack wasted no time as he homered to left field on a 1-0 count leading off the bottom of the first inning. That was the only offense until the sixth when Kevin O'Connor walked and came around to score on a double from Austin Gauthier. The Pride added another run in the seventh, loading the bases before Parker Quinn singled hard off the upper body of Monmouth pitcher Mason Miller to make it a 3-0 game.

Monmouth's JD Andreesen homered off reliever Jack Anderson in the eighth, but Hofstra got the run back in the bottom of the frame as Gauthier singled, stole second, and scored on a single from Myles Mensah.

Faello (1-2) allowed just two hits over five shutout innings. He walked three batters and struck out four. Steven Boscia pitched a scoreless sixth inning, escaping a first and third jam, before Anderson pitched the seventh and eighth inning. Daniel Page threw the ninth and recorded his first career save.

Tyler Ksiazek (0-2) took the loss for Monmouth after allowing one run on four hits over four innings. The senior struck out seven batters and walked just one.

Hofstra continues a five-game home stand Wednesday when it hosts Fairfield at 3 p.m.
