Hempstead, NY – Junior Ryan Tierney tallied career highs of six goals and eight points and sophomore Dylan McIntosh scored the game-winner with 1:28 to play in the first overtime as the Hofstra Pride recorded a 10-9 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the 17th-ranked Minutemen of Massachusetts at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Pride snapped a three-game losing slide to improve to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in the CAA. The Minutemen, who had their six-game winning streak snapped, slip to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Tierney topped his previous bests of five goals, achieved several times, and seven points, achieved against Stony Brook (5-2) and Lehigh (0-7) in 2018. The junior had completed his seventh hat-trick of the year by halftime and
tied the game at 9-all with his sixth of the contest with just 1:48 to play in regulation.

On the overtime winner, Tierney sent a pass to McIntosh in front of the crease and the Canadian sophomore beat UMass senior goalie Sean Sconone (9 saves). McIntosh, who missed five games with an injury sustained in the Villanova game on February 23, had two goals and picked up three ground balls in the contest.
 
Senior Jimmy Yanes and sophomore Riley Forte tallied the other two Hofstra goals. Sophomore goalie Bobby Casey recorded a career-high 16 saves, including 10 in the second half and overtime, topping his previous best of 15 against St. John's on March 12.

UMass was led by Chris Connolly with a goal and three assists, Devin Spencer with a goal and two assists while defender Isaac Paparo and Gabriel Procyk each scored twice. Charlie O'Brien, Kevin Cutinella and Jeff Trainor each scored one goal.
 
In a contest that featured three tied scores, the Minutemen held the upper hand early and often while building a 6-3 lead following Paparo's second goal of the half with 2:59 to play in the second quarter. But the Pride tallied three unanswered goals, including two in the third quarter, to tie the game at 6-6 on Forte's man-up goal with 11:56 to play in the third quarter.

UMass would score three of the next four goals to take a 9-7 lead after Trainor's man-up goal just 2:08 into the fourth quarter. The Pride closed to within one at 9-8 on senior Jimmy Yanes' sixth goal of the season, off a pretty pass from Griffin Barnathan, with 3:52 to play in regulation. It was Yanes' 50th-goal of his career. Tierney then squeezed in a shot between the left post and Sconone to tie the game at 9-9 with 1:48 to play in regulation. It was Tierney's career-best 32nd goal of the season.

Tierney had a chance to win it in the waning seconds but his low bullet was grabbed by Sconone. Both goalies made saves in the overtime before McIntosh ended it with his sixth goal of the season.

Hofstra will return to action next Saturday, April 13 when the Pride travel to Newark, Delaware to face the Blue Hens of Delaware in a CAA contest at 2 p.m.

- Saturday's game was the 46th in the series between Hofstra and UMass. The Minutemen now lead the series, 25-21.
- Saturday's game was the Pride's second overtime contest of the year after not having one since 2016. On February 23, Villanova defeated Hofstra in OT, 10-9.
- Tierney, who extended his goals and points streak to 11 consecutive games, now has a season-high of 32 goals topping his previous best of 31 set in 2017. He also tallied his 18th career hat-trick and his 22nd multi-goal contest in his 39 career games.
- Casey now has seven double-digit save games this season.
- Tierney now has 90 goals and 46 assists for 136 points in 39 career games at Hofstra as he is closing in on cracking the career Top 10 in both goals and points.
