BB: Hofstra Rallies To Win Series Finale Over Towson

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra erupted for five runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to rally and defeat Towson, 12-6, in the finale of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Sunday afternoon. The Pride trailed, 5-2, in the fifth before the five-run outburst.

Austin Pollack had the big hit in the sixth, a three-run home run that put Hofstra on top to stay at 7-5. Anthony D'Onofrio, who was 2-3 with three RBIs knocked in the first run of the inning with a double down the left field line. After a walk to Jimmy Joyce, Ryan Morash reached on an infield single to drive in the second run. The Tigers got the second out of the inning on a ground out before Pollack took a 0-1 pitch from John Cranston over the fence in left.

The Tigers would get a run back in the seventh, as Isaiah Winikur doubled in Nick Brown, who had reached on an error. But the Hofstra defense threw out the potential tying run at the plate on the play.

D'Onofrio was in the middle of Hofstra's seventh inning rally as well, delivering a two-run single up the middle. After moving to third on a Joyce double, D'Onofrio would score on a wild pitch. Morash then plated Joyce with a double to right center and then later came in to score the final run on a sacrifice fly from Parker Quinn.

Andrew Mundy (1-2) picked up the win in relief for Hofstra (7-24, 2-7 CAA), throwing four innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three batters. Daniel Page went the final three innings and allowed an unearned run on five hits to notch his second save.

Towson (7-27, 3-6 CAA) reliever Joe Enea (0-2), the third Tigers pitcher, took the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and a walk without recording an out in the sixth. Zach Piazza had three hits in the game for Towson and drove in a pair of runs.

Hofstra will return to action Wednesday when it travels to Rutgers for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
