BB: Hofstra Drops Game Two To Towson

Hempstead, NY - Austin Pollack went 3-4 with an RBI and Jimmy Joyce added an RBI double, but Towson's Gavin Weyman limited the Pride to three hits over seven innings as the Tigers took a 5-2 victory Saturday at University Field. The win clinched the Colonial Athletic Association series for the Tigers ahead of Sunday's finale.

The Tigers (7-26, 3-5 CAA) struck for three runs on four hits in the third inning. Javon Fields provided the big hit, a two-run double to right. After stealing third, Fields came home on a balk by Pride freshman starter Ryan Rue.

Hofstra (6-24, 1-7 CAA) broke through in the fifth as Sean Rausch drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on a single from Pollack. But Towson added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on Trey Martinez's two-run home run over the wall in left field.

The Pride got their second run in the ninth off reliever David Tiskevics as Austin Gauthier walked and came in to score on a double off the centerfield wall by Jimmy Joyce.

Weyman allowed one run and struck out three batters to improve to 2-5 on the season. Rue (1-4) allowed five runs on six hits over seven innings. He walked just one batter and struck out a season-high seven batters, including the side in order in the first inning.

Towson's Trent Gast Woodard had two hits on the day and scored a pair of runs.

The teams conclude the series Sunday at 12 p.m.
