Lynchburg, VA - Five Hofstra players had two hits and starter
Jack Jett allowed one run on three hits over 4 1/3 innings as Hofstra salvaged the final game of a three-game series at Liberty Sunday with a 10-5 win. Hofstra did have to stave off an eighth inning rally by the Flames and then pulled away in the ninth.
Rob Weissheier,
Parker Quinn,
Kevin O'Connor,
Myles Mensah, and Danie Page each collected a pair of hits for the Pride. O'Connor also drove in a career-high three RBIs. Mensah and Weissheier had two RBIs each.
Hofstra snapped a six-game losing streak and moved to 3-11 on the season. Liberty saw its four-game win streak halted and fell to 14-5.
The Pride wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring twice in the top of the first inning after putting together a two-out rally.
Vito Friscia got things started with a walk and Weissheier followed with a triple. Quinn delivered a single through the right side to knock in Weissheier with the second Hofstra run.
Hofstra would add two more runs in the third, again with two outs as Friscia doubled and came in on Weissheier's single up the middle. Quinn singled to put runners on first and second and O'Connor followed with a single of his own to plate Weissheier. The Pride tacked on a run in the seventh on Friscia's sacrifice fly that scored
Vinnie Costello, who had led off with a single. Hofstra scored its sixth run in the eighth as Page drove in O'Connor, who had reached on an error, with an infield single.
Liberty got its first run in the fifth as Logan Mathieu scored on a wild pitch. The Flames made things interesting in the eighth, scoring four times to make it a 6-5 game. Liberty loaded the bases with one out and then scored twice on a pair of balks from
Jimmy Joyce. After
Andrew Mundy relieved Joyce, Cam Locklear singled home Liberty's third run of the inning and Drew Baughman drew a bases loaded walk to plate the final run of the frame.
But the Pride added four insurance runs in the ninth inning with O'Connor doubling in a pair and two more coming in on a Mensah single.
Jack Anderson (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Jett. The sophomore left-hander, who came on in the fifth and escaped a two on, one out situation, threw two scoreless innings. Mundy notched his second save of the season after logging the final 1 2/3 innings.
