BB: Costello Homers, But Hofstra Falls At Fordham

Bronx, NY - Vinnie Costello hit a three-run home run that gave Hofstra a 3-1 lead in the second inning, but Fordham rallied t post a 4-3 victory over the Pride Sunday at Houlihan Field.

Hofstra fell to 2-9 with the loss while the Rams improved to 9-6 with its sixth straight win.

Fordham got on the board in the bottom of the first without a hit as two walks and two ground outs produced a run. Hofstra answered back in a big way in the top of the second as Rob Weissheier led off with a double and went to third on an infield out. After Parker Quinn walked to put runners on the corners, Costello took a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left-center for a 3-1 Hofstra lead.

The Rams got a run back in the on an RBI single from Jake MacKenzie and then went ahead in the fifth as MacKenzie doubled in the tying run and Justin Bardwell knocked in what proved to be the winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Cory Wall (1-0) got the win for Fordham as he allowed three runs on six hits over five innings. Marc Bisogno went three innings and allowed just one hit before Kyle Martin struck out two of three batters in the ninth for his fourth save.

Mike Murray (1-1) took the loss for Hofstra after allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of relief.

Sean Rausch had two hits for the Pride, his second consecutive two-hit game.

Hofstra will return to action Friday at Liberty. Game time is 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Costello homered for the second straight game.
-Hofstra's final four relievers – James Cardinale, Kyle Skidmore, Steven Boscia, and Jack Anderson – combined for four scoreless innings and allowed three hits.
-Hofstra lost by the same score to Fordham on Saturday and is now 24-33 all-time against the Rams.
