SB: Hofstra Adds Three to 2020 Roster

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Head Hofstra softball coach Jay Miller has announced three additional members of the 2019 recruiting class. Aliya Catanzarita, Nicole Mullin, and Jordan Pietrzykoski will join Leyden Atlas, Lindsey Hay, Chelsea Manto and Alex Musial who all signed National Letters of Intent earlier this season as part of the Hofstra Class of 2023.
 
"I really like our 2019 recruiting class. We were able to attract some outstanding athletes in this class that will help plug some holes and make us a stronger team going forward," said Miller. This group adds both speed and power to our line-up. In addition, they are great students. We are excited to get this group to campus next fall and begin working and developing such a talented group of players."
 
Aliya Catanzarita | INF/OF | Cheshire, Conn.
 
Catanzarita, an infielder and outfielder, comes to Hempstead from just over the Long Island Sound in Cheshire, Conn. A three-year high school standout, Catanzarita has been selected as a team captain for all four years at Cheshire Academy. In all, she has helped her team to a 37-10 (.787) record during her tenure, and won the Class B Championship in 2017 and 2018. As a freshman, Catanzarita posted a career-high .516 batting average and .938 slugging percentage. She was selected as the Cheshire Academy Softball Team MVP two times and was picked to participate in the Softball Factory All-America Preseason Tournament in 2019.
 
At Hofstra, Catanzarita plans to attain a degree in Biology/Pre-Med and plans to attend medical school following graduation with the goal to pursue Sports Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
 
Catanzarita on Hofstra: "I chose Hofstra because of the science department, the competitive softball program, and because of the close proximity to New York City."
 
Nicole Mullin | P | San Diego, Calif.
 
Mullin will join the Hofstra softball program all the way from The Golden State and will add depth to the Pride's pitching rotation. Mullin, who opted to participate in Track and Field at Cathedral Catholic High School, runs in the 100- and 300-meter races, and was a two-time Western League Champion and 2017 California Interscholastic Federation Division II Runner Up. In addition, Mullin was named to the Union Tribune All-Academic Team and won the Cathedral Catholic Scholar Athlete award.
 
Mullin plans to pursue a degree in Mass Media with a minor in political science at Hofstra and plans to attend law school following graduation to become a lawyer.

Jordan Pietrzykoski | INF | North Wales, Pa.
 
Pietrzykoski, a native of North Wales, Pa. will join the Hofstra family after a career at North Penn High School. A four-year player, Pietrzykoski was named to the 2018 Suburban One League (SOL) Continential All-Conference Third Team and was an All-Intelligencer Second Team second baseman. A year earlier, she was named to the SOL Continental All-Conference First Team, All-Intelligencer Second Team and was the winner of the Intelligencer Newspaper "WOW, What a Play" award. In that same year, Pietrzykoski was a Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery 2018 All-Area Softball Honorable Mention honoree.
 
At Hofstra, Pietrzykoski plans to pursue a degree in Psychology and aspires to become a Child Psychologist.
