WBB: Brozoski Scores 31 as Hofstra Falls to Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Hofstra University Women's Basketball team (7-14, 1-8 CAA) dropped a Colonial Athletic Association matchup, 70-62, to the College of Charleston Cougars (6-14, 2-7 CAA) on Sunday at the TD Arena.

Boogie Brozoski led all scorers with 31 points, her second 30+ point game in a three-game span, as she shot 46 percent from the field (11-of-24 FG) and 57 percent (4-of-7 FG) from beyond the arc. In addition, Brozoski was 5-of-5 from the free throw line for her eighth perfect effort from the stripe during her senior campaign. She also rounded out her day with six assists and four rebounds.

Joining Brozoski in double figures was junior forward Marianne Kalin who scored 12 total points on 56 percent (5-of-9) shooting with 10 points occurring in the first half alone. Sophomore Jaylen Hines shot 50 percent from the floor and led the Pride with seven rebounds. Charleston's Arynn Eady led the Cougars with a double double including 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Hofstra opened things up with a 5-0 lead over the Cougars, as Kalin and Brozoski hit a jumper and a three-point basket. Brozoski hit two additional threes to give Hofstra a seven-point lead and converted an old-fashioned three-point play at the 3:05 mark in the first quarter to give Hofstra what would be its largest lead of the day. Brozoski had 14 points in the first 10 minutes of action, going 5-of-6 form the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. Hofstra played a very tough defensive first quarter, forcing eight Cougar turnovers in the first frame.

Junior E'Lexus Davis hit a layup to open up the second stanza with a six-point lead, however the Cougars went on a 7-0 run before Davis found Kalin to end the spurt and take back the lead. The second quarter was neck-and-neck the rest of the way, as the game saw three ties and eight lead changes with Hofstra leading by one at the half, 35-34.

The Cougars out-scored the Pride, 9-4 in the first three minutes of the second half, but Brozoski and junior Mikiyah Croskey made baskets on back-to-back possessions to knot the score, 43-43 before Charleston had a response and Hofstra tied things against 47. The Cougars had a three-point advantage with a minute left in the third quarter before Hines delivered a layup off a pass from Brozoski with two seconds left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to one, 50-49.

Charleston's lead did not increase to any more than four points over the next five minutes, but the Cougars hit a jump shot to reach their largest lead up to that point, 61-58. Brozoski drained her fourth three-pointer to get within three points, but Charleston held Hofstra without a field goal over the next 3:30 to seal the win.

NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 7-5 all-time against Charleston
-Brozoski net her second 30+ point performance in three games and is just one of two players in the CAA to have two or more 30+ games this season.
-Brozoski's 11 made field goals are the most of any Pride player this season
