Bobby Casey from 13-yards out..
On a chilly Pennsylvania afternoon, the two teams split the first two goals. The Wildcats scored three of the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead over the Pride after the second of Matt Campbell's six goals on the day at the 7:27 mark of the second quarter. After Tierney scored his second of the day on the man-up with 2;51 to play in the half, Villanova added two more goals, including one with 0:01 to play, to give the Wildcats a 6-3 lead at the halftime break.
Hofstra came out strong in the second half and scored six unanswered goals in the first 10:07 of the third, and kept Villanova off the board, to take a 9-6 lead after three quarters. Yanes started the run with an unassisted tall just 1:05 into the third. Tierney posted his second hat-trick of the season three minutes later, and McIntosh tied the game at 6-6 just 51 seconds later with his fourth goal of the year, off a pass from classmate
Dominic Pryor. Tierney then added two more in less than a minute span to give the Pride an 8-6 lead before
James Philbin scored his third of the season, from Yanes, with 4:53 to play in the third for a 9-6 lead.
The Wildcats did not lie down and got a man-up goal by Kirst just 2:36 into the fourth quarter before Campbell added his fifth and six goals, the latter with 6:25 to play in regulation to tie the game at 9-9. Each team had at least one good opportunity to end the game in the waning minutes but came up short.
Hofstra will return home to James M. Shuart Stadium on Tuesday, February 26 for "The Long Island Rivalry, presented by The Greene Turtle" against Stony Brook. Game time is 7 p.m.
