WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Hofstra University Women's Basketball team (7-13, 1-7 CAA) dropped a Colonial Athletic Association game to the UNCW Seahawks (12-7, 5-3) at the Trask Coliseum on Friday evening by a score of 89-54. UNCW improved to a perfect 9-0 on its home court.
Junior guard
Sandra Karsten finished as the Pride's leading scorer with 10 points with the help of her 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line. Junior forward
Marianne Kalin shot 50 percent from the field (4-of-8) and finished with nine points, and junior guard
Ana Hernandez Gil rounded out the top-three scorers with eight points. Freshman
Caria Reynolds chipped in with six points and corralled a team-high seven rebounds despite seeing just under 13 minutes of playing time.
Four players finished in double figures for UNCW including GiGi Smith (18), Shrita Parker (15), Chinyere Bell (13) and Lacey Suggs (12).
UNCW led wire-to-wire in the contest and got off to a hot start early on, outscoring the Pride 25-12 in the first quarter of action. The Seahawks continued the pressure into the second quarter, shooting a game-high 69 percent from the floor during the frame to extend the halftime lead to 51-34.
Hofstra had its best field goal percentage as a team (40 percent) during the third quarter when the Pride went 6-of-14 from the field. Hofstra outscored UNCW, 17-12 in the fourth quarter and held the Seahawks to its lowest shooting effort of the night (41 percent). During the final 10 minutes, Karsten scored five of her 10 points, while Kalin, Reynolds and junior
Petja Krupenko each had four points.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, February 3 at the College of Charleston. Tip off at TD Arena is set for 1:00 pm.

- The last time the Pride lost by 30 or more points was two seasons ago (January 5, 2017) when Hofstra fell to James Madison, 93-57
- Turnovers were even for the contest, 16-16
- Despite fouling eight times in the first quarter, Hofstra finished with just 17 fouls
