Ana Hernandez Gil tallied a team-high 14 points but Vikings junior Mariah White scored a game-high 15 points to lead three players in double-figures as visiting Cleveland State defeated Hofstra, 61-51 at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex Monday night.
The Pride slip to 1-3 on the season with their third consecutive loss while the Vikings improve to 3-1 with their third straight victory.
Hernandez Gil, who scored 11 of her 14 points in the first half, added four assists. Sophomore
JaKayla Brown added nine points, three assists and three steals while
Jaylen Hines contributed seven points and seven rebounds. The Pride shot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field.
White also posted seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists and five steals in the contest for Cleveland State. Nadia Dumas added 13 points while Jamiya Braxton chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Vikings shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field including 53 percent (8-of-15) from the three-point line.
The Vikings came out and scored the first five points of the contest before Hernandez Gil's three pointer closed the gap to 5-3 with 8:44 to play in the first. Cleveland State then scored seven consecutive points as part of a 15-7 run the rest of the half to take a 20-10 lead after one quarter. The Vikings out-rebounded the Pride, 14-7 in the first quarter with Miller and White each scoring five points. Hernandez Gil tallied six points for the Pride.
The second quarter was slow starting with neither team scoring for the first 3:11 before Cleveland State scored nine of the next 13 points for a 29-14 lead after a lay-up by Taylor Levy with 4:17 to play in the half. The Pride then scored six of the next eight points with Hernandez Gil's three-pointer at the 2:01 mark bringing the Pride to within 11 at 31-20. Shortly after, Vikings' Savanna Crockett tallied the next three points before Hernandez Gil's jumper in the lane with 12 seconds to play closed out the scoring with the Pride trailing 34-22.
The Pride had their second-most productive period in the third quarter but it was the Vikings who came out on a 7-2 run to boost their lead to 41-24 at the 8:13 mark following the first of two three-pointers in the period by Jamiya Braxton. The Pride closed to within 14 at 48-34 following Hernandez Gil's three pointer at the 2:57 mark. Cleveland State closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run to boost the lead back to 19 at 55-36.
The Pride had their best offensive and defensive quarter in the contest in the fourth quarter, holding the Vikings to just six points while making a late charge over the last 6:06. Hofstra outscored Cleveland State, 10-2 with Hines scoring five points during the late rally to close to within nine in the final 18 seconds at 60-51 following a Hines layup.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, November 24 when the Pride host Howard University at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

- Monday's contest was the first meeting between Hofstra and Cleveland State.
- The Pride had their best offensive production of the season with the 51 points
- Hernandez Gil, who had her second double-digit scoring game of the season, had the most points by a Pride player in a game this season. It was her 22nd double-figure scoring game.
