WBB: Hofstra Falls To Stony Brook In Home Opener

Hempstead, NY - Freshman Sorelle Ineza had a season-best 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists but Stony Brook picked up an 81-38 victory over the Pride Wednesday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in the Long Island Rivalry, presented by The Greene Turtle.

Hofstra moved to 1-2 on the season following its second consecutive loss. Stony Brook moved to 3-0 on the year.

After Hofstra scored the first four points behind back-to-back baskets from senior Marianne Kalin, Stony Brook used a 13-0 run to go up 13-4 with 4:01 left in the first quarter. Kalin finally snapped the run with a layup at the 3:40 mark.  She added another basket at 3:10 to make it 13-8, but KK Hilaire's three-pointer put the Seawolves back up by eight, 16-8, with 2:54 on the clock. Stony Brook would lead at the end of the quarter, 20-10. Kalin had all 10 points for the Pride in the opening stanza.

Stony Brook scored five of the first seven points of the second quarter to open up a 13-point lead, 25-12, with 8:22 to play. An Ana Hernandez Gil three-pointer made it a 10-point game and the red-shirt junior guard followed with a short jumper to pull the Pride within eight, 25-17 with 6:21 to go. That was as close as the Pride would get and Stony Brook would take a 35-23 lead into halftime.

The Stony Brook lead grew to 31 point, 59-28, after three quarters as Victoria Johnson had seven points to lead the Seawolves. Ineza scored four of the Pride's 10 fourth quarter points.
