Sorelle Ineza had a season-best 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists but Stony Brook picked up an 81-38 victory over the Pride Wednesday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in the Long Island Rivalry, presented by The Greene Turtle.
Hofstra moved to 1-2 on the season following its second consecutive loss. Stony Brook moved to 3-0 on the year.
After Hofstra scored the first four points behind back-to-back baskets from senior
Marianne Kalin, Stony Brook used a 13-0 run to go up 13-4 with 4:01 left in the first quarter. Kalin finally snapped the run with a layup at the 3:40 mark. Â She added another basket at 3:10 to make it 13-8, but KK Hilaire's three-pointer put the Seawolves back up by eight, 16-8, with 2:54 on the clock. Stony Brook would lead at the end of the quarter, 20-10. Kalin had all 10 points for the Pride in the opening stanza.
Stony Brook scored five of the first seven points of the second quarter to open up a 13-point lead, 25-12, with 8:22 to play. An
Ana Hernandez Gil three-pointer made it a 10-point game and the red-shirt junior guard followed with a short jumper to pull the Pride within eight, 25-17 with 6:21 to go. That was as close as the Pride would get and Stony Brook would take a 35-23 lead into halftime.
The Stony Brook lead grew to 31 point, 59-28, after three quarters as Victoria Johnson had seven points to lead the Seawolves. Ineza scored four of the Pride's 10 fourth quarter points.
Hilaire led all scorers with 16 points and added nine assists. Johnson had 12 points, while Cheyenne Clark chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
Hofstra returns to action Monday when it hosts Cleveland State. Tip-off at the Mack Sports Complex is set for 5 p.m.
