WBB: Hofstra Drops Sunday Match-Up to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Hofstra University Women's Basketball Team (1-1) battled Sacred Heart (1-1) on Sunday, but ultimately fell to the Pioneers by a 71-44 margin at the William H. Pitt Center.
 
Redshirt junior guard Ana Hernandez Gil finished in double figures, as she led the Pride with 11 points, nine of which came from three-pointers. Freshman Sorelle Ineza concluded her day with nine points (3-of-6 FG) while also tallying a team-high five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore JaKayla Brown added eight points for the Pride, and senior Sandra Karsten tied her career-high of five assists while pulling down four rebounds.
 
Sacred Heart jumped on the Pride in the first quarter and led by 10 points after the first 10 minutes, but Hofstra stormed back with a strong second quarter where the Pride shot 46 percent from the floor to climb all the way back and take a lead at the 4:58 mark. During the quarter, Hofstra used an 11-0 run lasting almost four minutes as Ineza scored seven-straight points before Brown finished off the rally with four points of her own. Sacred Heart hit two field goals in the final 1:30 of the first half to hold a five-point advantage over the Pride at halftime.
 
Hernandez Gil knocked down her first three-point basket of the day before Ineza added another bucket early in the third, however Sacred Heart took control from the rest of the way as Hofstra was limited offensively throughout the remainder of the contest.
 
Hofstra will turn focus to an important non-conference matchup on Wednesday, November 13 as the Pride host the Stony Brook Seawolves in Hofstra's home opener. The Long Island Rivalry presented by the Greene Turtle is set to tip of at 7 p.m. at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

-Hofstra now trails in the all-time series to Sacred Heart, 3-2
-Rebounds were nearly even, but the Pride had the edge on the boards, 35-34
-Hofstra scored 13 fast break points and 13 points off turnovers
